The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Bravecto Quantum, a groundbreaking injectable flea and tick treatment for dogs and puppies aged 6 months and older. This new medication offers protection for 8 to 12 months, making it the first long-acting treatment of its kind approved in the U.S.

Bravecto Quantum contains fluralaner, an active ingredient from the isoxazoline class of antiparasitic drugs. While similar medications typically last about a month, this new formulation extends protection significantly, helping reduce the need for frequent dosing.

Because the injection requires professional administration, Bravecto Quantum is available only through licensed veterinarians, who will also determine the appropriate dosing schedule based on the dog’s risk of exposure to different tick species.

Though generally safe, isoxazoline-based products have been linked to neurologic side effects—such as tremors or seizures—in some pets. Pet owners are advised to consult their veterinarian to assess whether Bravecto Quantum is suitable for their dog
